POSITION REPORTS TO: Traffic Supervisor
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

- As a position affecting the safety of others, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of City of Enid’s substance abuse policy, including random drug and alcohol testing.
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES- Operates city vehicle to patrol assigned areas of the City to observe automobiles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and other vehicles for parking violations; enforces related local regulations and ordinances and State vehicle code laws;
- Locates abandoned autos by reviewing reports and citizen complaints and through patrol activities; confirms through inspection and inquiry that vehicles are abandoned; marks vehicles and pavement; leaves warnings or citations on vehicles; notifies last registered owners; arranges for vehicle to be towed as necessary and surveillance of long-term parking violations;
- Issues citations for expired meters, improper use of specially designated or timed zones or lots, improper parking such as parking in crosswalks, sidewalks, handicap, improperly parked motorcycles, parking in preferential areas, and related violations;
- Operates computer equipment and two-way radio; marks vehicles to detect abuse of timed areas;
- Completes data required for citations including but not limited to code sections violation, time, date and location of offense, vehicle license plate number and/or vehicle identification number;
- Answers a wide variety of questions from the public regarding parking and related traffic laws, location of public buildings, parks, municipal facilities, and other points of interest; interacts with hostile and irate parking violators; responds to complaints from the public;
- Maintains records of work performed, prepare required reports
- Assist in prosecution of parking violations and appear in court at hearings regarding contested traffic citations;
- Notifies police of incidents involving abusive behavior by the public;
- Observe and report hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals or signs, and street markings that need to be repainted. Tags and/or reports malfunctioning parking meters, faded paint on curbs, vandalized signs, and other obstacles that may impede enforcement or hinder the public from understanding and obeying the law;
- Checks operational condition of enforcement vehicles and performs routine operator maintenance such as filling gas tank, checking and adding oil, inflating tires, etc.;
- Reports malfunctioning enforcement vehicles to their supervisor for repair;
- Provides traffic control when assigned or as necessary;
- Provide assistance to other departments as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Parking rules and regulations are fairly administered.
- Records of parking violations are filed and easily retrieved.
- Effective working relations exist with City personnel.
- New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
No prior experience or training.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:- Ability to collect and count money.

- Accurate and attentive to detail.
- Excellent communications and public relations abilities.
- Ability to assist and support others.
- Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, electronic ticket writers and other basic business machines.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITIONFINGER DEXTERITY:
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
VISUAL ABILITIES:
Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
PDC Level: Light Ability to walk on sidewalks and roadways to ticket vehicles that are not in compliance. Ability to ascend/descend 16" step. Ability to turn neck and body to look out of windows and clear traffic while driving.
LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:
Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:
Regular – 8 hour shift, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday and some evenings and weekends may be required as needs dictate.
Other–Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.
NOISE LEVEL:
Moderate noise.

ADVANCEMENT CRITERIAINTERMEDIATE:
3-5 years related work experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic Word skills.
Knowledge of safety as applies to job.
Valid CPR certification.
ADVANCED:
6+ years related work experience.
Additional vocational coursework in related field.
Intermediate Word skills.
