The Environmental Safety Specialist conducts risk assessments, audits and inspections of applicable departments. Assists with the design, implementation, and evaluation of contingency plans for managing the seven disciplines of the Environment of Care. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Responsibilities
The Environmental Safety Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Assists with the standardization, priorities and functions of all INTEGRIS Environment of Care programs.
- Oversees and implements as necessary a quality assurance program for inspecting, testing, and maintaining life safety equipment.
- Designs and implements a program to test life safety equipment at INTEGRIS .
- Establishes a process for maintaining a documentation library for regulatory compliance.
- Designs, implements and educates the organization on utility failure contingency plans and the functions of the fire alarm system.
- Evaluates all FM Global recommendations; prioritizes, implements and documents corrective action.
- Schedules and conducts required surveillance inspections to assure a safe and healthful environment and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinates the design and implementation of emergency preparedness plans (hazardous material incident preparation, mass casualty planning and disaster management processes).
- Coordinates the preparation of reports required by applicable external regulatory agencies.
- Maintains and updates safety policy and procedures.
Reports to the department Manager or Director.

Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering (or related field), Natural Science, or Safety preferred.
- Experience preparing for and presenting documentation as a hospital representative in a minimum of 2 Joint Commission surveys or other regulatory agencies.
- 6 years experience and/or equivalent of experience and education in Maintenance Management, Safety, Quality Assurance, or Business.
- Knowledge with facility operations, life safety systems, emergency distributions systems, electrical distribution systems, HVAC, boilers, medical gas systems, communications, and/or construction codes and techniques for multi building complexes preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, computerized maintenance management systems and/or building automation.
- Knowledge in predictive maintenance processes preferred. Experience in design and implementation of statistical process control evaluations.
- Knowledge with rules and regulations of regulatory agencies such as TJC, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Oral/Written).
