Produce Clerk / Fruit Cutter

Summary/Objective: A Produce Clerk performs stocking, ordering, attending to customers, and general housekeeping.

Reports to: Produce Manager and Produce Supervisor

Essential Functions: • All areas of customer satisfaction and service, including not limited to, responding to customer requests, questions and complaints. • Working and communicating successfully with all levels of customers, management and fellow employees. • Abides by all state and federal regulations including food safety. • Attends to all customer needs and moving from stocking, sacking and carrying out as needed as well as directing or talking to customers regarding items in question. • Unload product from delivery trucks. • Stocking merchandise accurately and between code tags on the shelf, making sure stock is accurately priced, signed, rotated, and tagged as assigned and required by management. • Assist with monthly Inventories. • Ordering merchandise and controlling backstock. • Verifying that all refrigerated equipment is working properly in the Produce area, if not, notifying the Produce Manager or Store Director immediately. • Requesting and verifying receiving credits for merchandise-that is damaged and/or short on delivery. • Repetitively cutting fruit and vegetables with provided knives & equipment. • Makes sure the frozen is clean and orderly, properly stocked, priced, signed, tagged and rotated. • Assists customers with carry out if needed or requested. • Knowledge of all equipment in the produce department, including pallet jack, knives, box knives (must be 18 years of age or older with required certification and training to operate), order machines, calculators, adding machines, box bailer, service carts, telephone and FM unit. • Adhering to and following all Jumbo Foods Safety Policies and requirements, including those pertaining to personal protective equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Work Environment: Retail grocery store Produce Department. Includes standing and walking during an 8 hour work-shift.

Physical Demands: • This position requires standing 4 hours or more each day • Walking 6 hours or more each day • Working in temperatures ranging from less than 15 degrees Fahrenheit to room temperature. • Carrying product up to 10 pounds frequently, carrying product 11 to 70 pounds occasionally • Lifting product up to 10 pounds frequently, lifting product 11 to 70 pounds occasionally • Repetitive actions such as simple grasping and fine manipulation • Maintain head and neck in static position with frequent flexing and frequent rotation recommended

Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent
