Front End Service Associate (Checker)

Summary/Objective: A Checker performs front end duties including but not limited to checking, sacking, carrying out and general housekeeping duties.
Reports to: Store Director and Assistant Store Director
Essential Functions: • All areas of customer satisfaction and service, including not limited to, responding to greeting customers, customer requests, questions and complaints. • Working and communicating successfully with all levels of customers, management and fellow employees. • Memorization of PLU numbers and recognition of all produce to insure customer satisfaction and correct product charges. • Informing Customers of all programs and discounts available through the store. • Operates scanner, counts money and makes change accurately and efficiently. • Makes notes of items not in the price file so that they may be added. • Knows and adheres to store policy regarding taking checks. • Knows and adheres to store policy regarding verification of identification on ALL tobacco and alcohol purchases. • Attends to all customer needs and moving from checking, sacking, and carrying out as needed as well as directing or talking to customers regarding items in question. • Assists customers with carry out if needed. • Knowledge of store equipment such as scanner register, credit card machine, box knife (18 or older only), service cart and box bailer (18 or older only).

Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Work Environment: Retail grocery store. Includes standing and little walking during a 8 hour work-shift.
Physical Demands: • This position requires standing up to 9 hours or more each day • Walking 3 hours or more each day • Carrying product up to 10 pounds frequently, carrying product 11 to 50 pounds occasionally • Lifting product up to 10 pounds frequently, lifting product 11 to 50 pounds occasionally • Repetitive actions such as simple grasping and fine manipulation • Maintain head and neck in static position with frequent flexing and frequent rotation recommended
Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent
