Position Description

Position Title: Head Athletic Trainer-Enid Department: Athletics

Reports to: Athletic Director

SUMMARY: The head athletic trainer will develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for intercollegiate sports. The head athletic trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:

• Develop overall sports medicine program for the College, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.

• Provide athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.

• Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

• Coordinate the drug testing processes for the institution’s athletic department.

• Responsible for the education of the College’s students in the Athletic Training Degree Program.

• Work in conjunction with the coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.

• Schedule and coordinate athletic training student aids for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions.

• Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.

• Maintain accurate records of injuries, appropriate general treatment orders to be reviewed annually and approved by the team physician/supervising and submit accident claim forms to the appropriate personnel.

• Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, athletes, parents, and

coaches.

• Recruit and promote Athletic Training program to potential new students

• Assist the athletic director as requested.

• Supervise and facilitate any insurance claims processing acting as a liaison between junior

college consortium’s insurance company (Summit America), the athlete, and all providers of medical services.

• Supervise and/or assist in the collection of required insurance information and forms from student-athletes.

• Secure proper insurance coverage for all athletes, including aiding the athlete in obtaining such insurance when needed.

• Serve as a Campus Security Authority.

• Maintain proper continuing education as required by the NATA BOC (certified by the NATA BOC and have state athletic training licensure).

• Availability to work evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and initiative, as well as the ability to perform within a dynamic team environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field is required,

master’s degree preferred. NATABOC Certification is required. Must possess, or be eligible for Oklahoma State Licensure. A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete Concept and a working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations is required.
