Position Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management and performance of the Sidwell Distribution Center. This position oversees customer service, sales, warehouse operations, logistics, receiving, product pickups, inventory control, and team performance.
The General Manager will lead the Distribution Center team, including Sales Representatives and the Warehouse Operations Supervisor, while ensuring that all activities are coordinated efficiently and accurately.
This individual will serve as the primary liaison between the Distribution Center and the CEO,
providing regular updates on sales, operations, inventory, logistics, customer activity, new opportunities and areas requiring attention.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, organized, results-driven leader who can manage people, develop business, coordinate logistics, solve problems, and ensure the Distribution Center operates efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Service & Front Office
• Serve as the primary point of contact for Distribution Center customers.
• Answer and direct incoming phone calls and respond to customer inquiries.
• Assist walk-in customers and clients visiting the storefront.
• Coordinate customer product pickups and ensure orders are prepared and ready when customers arrive.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming, and service-oriented environment.
• Resolve customer issues and coordinate with the appropriate team members to address problems promptly.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with customers regarding orders, deliveries,
pickups, receiving schedules, and product availability.
2. Sales Management & Business Development
• Manage and provide direction to the Distribution Center sales team.
• Establish sales goals, targets, and performance expectations.
• Monitor sales performance and hold team members accountable for achieving established goals.
• Work with sales representatives to identify new customers and business opportunities.
• Assist the sales team in developing leads and prospecting strategies.
• Help organize sales routes and customer visits to maximize the team's time and productivity.
• Track sales activity and communicate results and opportunities to the CEO.
• Identify opportunities to improve revenue, customer retention, and overall
profitability.
3. Delivery & Logistics Management
• Oversee the scheduling and coordination of Distribution Center deliveries.
• Coordinate delivery schedules with customers, sales staff, warehouse personnel, and drivers.
• Assist in planning efficient driver routes to maximize vehicle utilization, driver productivity,
and delivery efficiency.
• Coordinate with other areas of the business to identify opportunities to combine or optimize deliveries and driving routes.
• Ensure drivers have the necessary information, paperwork, products, and instructions before leaving the facility.
4. Receiving & Cold Storage Operations
• Coordinate and schedule incoming loads with customers and suppliers.
• Maintain communication with customers regarding forecast of upcoming loads to ensure adequate cold-storage capacity.
• Coordinate with the Warehouse Operations Supervisor to ensure receiving schedules are manageable and properly staffed.
• Verify receiving paperwork when loads arrive. Double-check packing lists, product information, quantities, and other applicable documentation against the products physically received.
• Ensure products are properly identified, recorded, and placed into the appropriate storage location.
• Maintain accurate records of products received and placed into storage.
5. Customer Product Pickups
• Coordinate product pickup appointments with customers and the warehouse team.
• Confirm products, quantities, and pickup requirements prior to customer arrival.
• Work with the warehouse team to ensure products are pulled, staged, and ready for pickup.
• Verify that the correct products and quantities are released to customers.
• Maintain accurate records of completed pickups and inventory movement.
6. Inventory Management & Control
• Oversee the accuracy of Distribution Center inventory records.
• Ensure all products received, stored, moved, picked up, and delivered are properly recorded.
• Maintain accurate records for inventory movements.
• Monitor storage capacity and communicate anticipated capacity issues to management.
7. Team Leadership & Operations
• Conduct regular team meetings and communicate priorities and operational needs.
• Coordinate sales, warehouse, customer service, and transportation activities to ensure departments work together effectively.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions.
• Ensure employees follow company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Support employee training and development.
• Step in and assist with day-to-day operations when necessary.
8. Communication & Management Reporting
• Serve as the primary liaison between the Distribution Center and the CEO.
• Provide regular updates regarding sales performance, customer activity, inventory, deliveries,
receiving, staffing, and operational challenges. Keep the CEO informed of significant customer concerns and opportunities.
• Communicate problems promptly and present potential solutions when appropriate.
• Coordinate with other areas of the company to ensure the Distribution Center supports overall company objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
• Proven experience managing people and business operations.
• Experience in distribution, logistics, warehousing, B2B, agribusiness, food products, cold storage, or a related industry preferred.
• Sales or business development experience preferred.
• Experience coordinating transportation, deliveries, or logistics preferred.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and hold employees accountable.
• Proficiency with computers and business management software.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can effectively manage people while also staying involved in the day-to-day operation of the Distribution Center. This person should be comfortable working with customers, leading a sales team, coordinating logistics, managing warehouse operations, and solving problems as they arise. They should be organized, proactive, accountable, and focused on improving efficiency, customer service, sales, and profitability.
This position requires a combination of office, customer-facing, warehouse, and operational responsibilities. The General Manager should be comfortable working in both an office and warehouse environment and interacting regularly with customers, employees, drivers, sales personnel, and company leadership.
